POSITION OVERVIEW
We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer with a strong focus on concrete structures to join our growing team in Kanata . The successful candidate will be involved in the design, analysis, and field review of concrete structural systems for a variety of building projects, including commercial, institutional, multi-residential, and infrastructure developments. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and construction professionals to deliver high-quality, code-compliant designs that meet client expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and analyze reinforced concrete structures, including foundations, slabs, columns, shear walls, and frames for buildings and infrastructure.
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, and specifications.
- Perform site visits, structural assessments, and field reviews during construction to ensure design compliance and quality control.
- Coordinate and collaborate with architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout all phases of the project.
- Review and respond to shop drawings, RFIs (Requests for Information), and other construction submittals.
- Ensure designs adhere to applicable building codes and standards including OBC, NBCC, CSA A23.3, and others as required.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists as needed.
- Contribute to proposal writing, scope development, and cost estimating for structural work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering (asset).
Experience:
- Minimum of 4–8 years of experience in structural engineering, with a strong emphasis on reinforced concrete design.
- Experience with Ottawa building codes, construction practices, and permitting processes is preferred.
Certifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligibility for licensure with PEO.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficiency with structural analysis/design software (e.g., ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000).
- Experience with SP Slab and S-Concrete is required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian concrete design codes (e.g., CSA A23.3), NBCC, and OBC.
- Familiarity with construction documents, specifications, and detailing practices.
SOFT SKILLS
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Commitment to quality and attention to detail.
ASSETS
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken. French is an asset for the Ottawa / Gatineau region.
- Experience with other structural materials (steel, wood, masonry).
- Experience working on projects for public sector clients (e.g., NCC, PSPC, municipalities).
