Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer - Energy Storage will be responsible for the development and testing of new battery technologies and electronic subsystems for large battery backup products used with Vertiv uninterruptible power supplies. The role requires a deep understanding of batteries and battery technology, and close collaboration with teams across research & development, product management, program management, and manufacturing engineering. The successful candidate will deliver solutions that meet cost, schedule, and performance targets.

This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Delaware, OH office location.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and test electrical systems for new battery management solutions.
  • Research emerging battery technologies and serve as the battery hardware expert within the Energy Storage team.
  • Develop and execute test plans for new UPS backup battery systems.
  • Write specifications for new battery management system (BMS) circuit boards and assist in schematic design.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to clarify specifications, obtain equipment quotes, and support sourcing activities.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts, including component substitutions and product improvements.
  • Provide occasional engineering support for test activities across Vertiv product groups.
  • Contribute engineering expertise to other Vertiv initiatives as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineer role.
  • Strong skills in planning, organizing, documentation, and communication.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional / Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:
  • Datacenter operations
  • Commercial or industrial power infrastructure
  • Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
  • Firmware development
  • Sensor & microprocessor integration
  • Remote condition monitoring
  • Li-ion battery management
  • Knowledge of NEC or NFPA 855 is desirable but not required.
  • Experience using 2-dimensional CAD is desirable but not required.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 40lbs to a height of 48 inches.
