This role offers the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team keeping Lancaster County's roads, bridges, and infrastructure safe and reliable for our community. You'll assist in leading and participating in a variety of projects, including road and bridge maintenance, culvert installation, and snow removal operations. You'll also review contractor work, maintain records, train team members, and operate a range of equipment used in construction and maintenance. This is a hands-on, collaborative position where your skills directly contribute to the safety and quality of our transportation system. Please note: This safety-sensitive position is subject to mandatory drug testing policies as a condition of employment.
This position works out of the Roca Shop.
Hours: Full time
Winter Hours are 5x 8-hour shifts (October to April): Monday - Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Hours subject to change in an emergency.
Summer Hours are 4x 10-hour shifts (April to October): Monday- Thursday; 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Hours subject to change in an emergency.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of experience in the operation of heavy-duty construction and maintenance equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to be insured by the County's insurance carrier.
Employees must possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and any applicable endorsements within 60 days.
Employees must possess and maintain a Highway Superintendent License within 12 months of date of hire.
