Job Summary
Under the supervision of up-line personnel performs responsible work in the maintenance and repair of light and heavy automotive equipment; operates welding equipment to repair and maintain snowplows, auto and truck bodies, and other equipment requiring welding; perfom1s trade work in support of external departments and projects; fabrication; may maintain police weapons range; and related work as required.
NOTE: Successful candidate is subject to Drug & Alcohol testing under the requirements of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. This test is given only after a conditional offer of employment is made to a candidate,
Placement of this position is contingent upon negative Drug and Alcohol Tests and possession of a Commercial Drivers License.
This position is first shift 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
Duties & Responsibilities
- Is responsible for welding equipment and supplies.
- Performs gas and electric arc and MIG welding to fabricate and repair all types of metal equipment, tools, and machinery and vehicular equipment and pans.
- Pe1forms general overhaul and repair work as assigned by supervisor on brakes, ignition systems and transmission differentials.
- Installs plow frames, moldboards, cutting edges and other work to support winter operations,
- Performs other related duties assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent with courses in gas, electric arc and MIG welding, or automotive repair and a combination of training and experience sufficient to perform the tasks and duties of the job in a satisfactory manner.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods used in welding, cutting, brazing and heating metals.
- Skill in acetylene and electric arc and MIG welding and in the use and maintenance of welding equipment and supplies; skill in the use and operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repairs.
- Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and techniques used in the repair of light and heavy-duty automotive equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines and the mechanical repair of heavy trucks and construction equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement
- Ability to complete a Confined Space course; ability to work in confined spaces and lift objects up to 75 pounds above waist level.
- Ability to interpret and work from sketches and diagrams.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
The term "limited" means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
