Job Summary

Under the supervision of up-line personnel performs difficult manual work of a mechanical nature in the operation of complex and specialized automotive sewer equipment; operates a truck during emergencies and/or winter weather events to meet goals and objectives; and related work as required.

This position is first shift 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates a catch basin excavator truck, backhoe, vacall, flusher truck, and street sweeper for cleaning catch basins, sumps, and sewer lines.
  • Operates a utility truck and appurtenances such as compressors, pumps, and generators.
  • Operates an automotive clamshell loader of the bucket or self-propelling type for cleaning sludge from the sewers.
  • Operates a plow and sander during winter operations.
  • Operates and makes minor maintenance repairs on a motor launch.
  • Maintains simple records of time and equipment usage.
  • Makes minor operator maintenance repairs and performs service on equipment; when not engaged in equipment operations or servicing, performs general manual labor as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of automotive equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement.
  • Must possess and maintain a Hoisting Engineer's License, with Restricted Hydraulic Crane endorsement.
  • Working knowledge of the mechanics of gasoline and diesel motors and automotive equipment; skill in the operation of complex and other automotive equipment.
  • Ability to make operating repairs, adjustments, and perform general maintenance work on equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

The term "limited" means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
