Aerotek's client is seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team in Mt. Airy, Maryland.

Job Overview:

The Equipment Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment, such as excavators, skid-steers, backhoes, trenchers, augers, and trench rollers. The operator must be willing to learn the processes of installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical duct banks, concrete pads, pole bases and other electrical site related work. This role may require you to be out of the equipment helping the ground crew with elevations and grades.

  • The ideal candidate must have prior experience working with construction equipment, possess a valid driver's license, and be able to work efficiently and safely in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as excavators, skid-steers, backhoes, trenchers, augers, and trench rollers safely and efficiently.

  • Learn and assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical duct banks, concrete pads, pole bases, and other electrical site-related work.

  • Collaborate with the ground crew to manage elevations and grades.

  • Perform tasks such as digging trenches, moving materials, and proper backfilling.

  • Utilize transit and laser levels for accurate elevations and grades.

  • Assist in the installation of conduit, concrete forms, pole base forms, wire pulls, and other tasks to complete electrical site work.

  • Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Interpret blueprints and diagrams to determine the location of utility lines and layout.

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and materials.

  • Report any equipment malfunctions or damage to the supervisor.

  • Adhere to all company policies and regulations.

  • Complete required safety trainings as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 8-10+ years of experience operating excavators in the utility field.

  • Proficiency in using excavators, mini excavators, and other heavy equipment.

  • Knowledge of utilities, wet utility, and dry utility operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a construction or utility setting.

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

  • CDL class A preferred or ability to attain one.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.

  • Excellent and precise equipment control.

  • Attention to detail and a strong work ethic.

  • Team player with excellent communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Must be able to handle heavy equipment, tools, and materials.

  • May have to work at different job sites and travel if needed.

  • Regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr.
