Make an impact in the community by joining the Facilities Team! The Facilities Division consists of 24 staff members that work hard to ensure all residents and employees of Broomfield have access to clean, safe, and energy efficient buildings and aquatic facilities.

The Facilities team is looking for a Journeyman HVAC to work under the Master Mechanical HVAC, performing skilled work in the general maintenance, repair and installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. This position will also perform facilities maintenance duties related to general mechanical, plumbing and electrical work.

Total Compensation Package

Salary Range: $34.82 - $47.12/hour

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

Analyzes, troubleshoots, installs, repairs, rebuilds, adjusts and replaces heating, cooling and other mechanical equipment and components in City-owned facilities including bearings, motors, heat exchangers, air conditioning compressors, water and pneumatic valves, humidity control units, coolers, freezers, exhaust hoods, and pneumatic, electrical and electro-pneumatic and digital control systems.

Performs general mechanical, plumbing and electrical work in the alteration and maintenance of City buildings and facilities

Performs inspection of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, emergency generators, pool systems, fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems to ensure proper operation.

Assists with managing contractual resources engaged with the City and County to maintain facilities and equipment; obtains bids and quotes; schedules work with contractors; escorts vendors through secure areas; follows up on work for compliance.

Assists with other building maintenance tasks as needed including but not limited to painting, carpentry, moving furniture and equipment, plumbing, snow removal, electrical and fabrication work. Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and tools for proper operating condition.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High school graduation or GED Equivalent - required

Experience

4 years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and related mechanical, electrical and plumbing necessary to support these systems.

Certifications

EPA Universal Certification - required at time of hire

ICC Mechanical Journeyman Certificate - required within 3 months of hire

NATE Certification (Air Conditioning Service and Installation & Gas Heating Service and Installation) - preferred

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual inters, reference checks, background checks including local police check, sex-offender registry, DMV check, pre-placement physical, fingerprints through CBI/FBI, and bi-annual CJIS certification.

Working Conditions

Physical demands are described as heavy (exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).

Ascend, descend, and work on a 20 foot ladder as well as rooftops of multiple-story buildings.

Required to operate/use/handle/construct equipment (e.g., office equipment, hand tools, etc.)

Required to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Required to communicate and/or detect sounds

Required to sit, kneel, or crawl

Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

May occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or airborne particles.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Work near moving mechanical parts.

Work in confined spaces.

Work in year-round outdoor weather conditions.

Work in conditions of extreme heat and cold.

Requires indoor and outdoor activities.

The noise level in the environment is moderately noisy.

Travel by automobile is required to attend meetings and perform job duties.

Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required.

May be called into work at any hour to perform emergency repairs as needed
