SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Job Description:

Support the design and development of power control units and inverters for electric vehicles (xEV). Leverage thermal management expertise, mechanical design experience, and project leadership skills to optimize inverter performance and ensure seamless integration into customer applications. This role requires collaboration with global teams and hands-on support for validation, testing, and manufacturing processes.

  • Lead and support the development and validation of next generation xEV inverter technology.
  • Analyze and implement thermal management solutions to optimize power electronics and system performance.
  • Utilize 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, and NX) and CAE tools (ANSYS, etc.) for advanced design and analysis.
  • Work with cross-functional and global teams to develop inverters that meet customer system requirements.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between OEM customers, Astemo design teams (US/Japan), suppliers, and manufacturing sites.
  • Support and manage design improvements, validation activities, and production launch of xEV inverters.
  • Develop technical specifications, cost estimates, and manufacturing process improvements to optimize quality and efficiency.
  • Provide on-site support for manufacturing sites during prototype builds, testing, and mass production phases.
  • Assist in product pricing, quoting, and cost investigations to ensure cost-effectiveness and feasibility.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for manufacturing personnel to improve first-time quality performance.
  • Utilize data analysis tools to track project metrics, optimizing project deliverables.
  • Conduct DFMEA, DVP&R, DRBFM, and other engineering documentation tasks to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.

Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in automotive design and development.
  • Other experience and skills must include:
  • Thermal management principles and structural analysis for power electronics.
  • 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, and NX) and ANSYS CAE tools for design, modeling, and validation.
  • DFMEA, DVP&R, and DRBFM.
  • Project management skills with proven ability in delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Communication and collaboration skills necessary in working with global teams, customers, and suppliers.
  • Supporting product validation, prototyping, and manufacturing process optimization.
  • Lean manufacturing, cost analysis, and supplier scorecard implementation to enhance efficiency.
  • Power BI and Microsoft 365 for data tracking and reporting.
  • 15-20% domestic and international travel as required.
  • Hybrid role with 2-3 days on-site at work location required.
  • Must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
