SCB is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Campus Environments practice group in Boston.

For over three decades, SCB's Campus Environments practice group has been shaping the future of higher education through thoughtful, high-impact design. With work on more than 65 campuses across the country, we bring deep expertise to projects including student housing, student centers, dining halls, recreation and wellness facilities, academic and research spaces, and libraries, among others. As a project manager in the Campus Environments practice group, you will lead projects across all scales and campus building typologies, as well as help grow our practice in the Boston higher education market and along the east coast. We are looking for an individual who has experience working with institutions of higher education, a passion for campus design, interest in business development, and desire for professional growth.

The Role

Our ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience leading complex, multidisciplinary teams, and thrives in a dynamic environment.

The right candidate is highly organized, an effective communicator, experienced in client relations and eager to take on the challenges of managing multiple projects. Our Project Managers are key pillars of the practice, and integral to the success of our projects. A strong understanding of project management fundamentals, including contracts, scheduling, fee proposals, and consultant management is essential. You will be responsible for the overall project performance while building lasting client relationships.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibility for the overall management of the project team to deliver the project in accordance with the project objectives

Functions as the primary point of contact with the Client and consultant team

Establishes detailed work plans to meet project milestones and regularly monitors project progress

Responsibility for managing the project team to achieve the financial performance targets

Oversees the timely delivery of services throughout all project phases and manages the billing and receipt of payment for those services

In collaboration with Principal leadership, prepares fee proposals and negotiates additional services fees when necessary

Conducts fee analysis based on program types and area, and overall schedule duration, estimates billings per month, and targets fee projections based on current market

Solicits consultant proposals and negotiates Owner/Architect and Consultant agreements in conjunction with Principal leadership

Supervises staffing during various phases of the project and attends progress review meetings. Confirms staffing assumptions for roles and overall count

Reviews all change order proposals and requests for payment and certifies them to Owner

Participates in strategic discussion with senior management on issues that affect the Firm's performance, risk, perception in the marketplace, and client satisfaction

Directs research and opportunities for new or innovative system applications. Directs the implementation of techniques to improve quality of work and efficiency on the project

This is an on-site position based in Boston, with the expectation of working in the office four days per week to enhance project flexibility and connection with team members

Travel may be required depending on project location and other client-facing responsibilities

Essential Skills/Attributes

Highly organized with excellent written, presentation, and communication skills

Exhibits a results-oriented attitude and takes initiative toward all aspects of a project, from pursuits to construction services

Promotes a positive team effort by cooperative and interactive working methods. Sets a high example of leadership, professionalism, and mentorship for junior staff

Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals including clients, consultants, code and city officials, and construction trades

Advanced understanding of all phases of an architectural project; code, zoning, accessibility, and regulatory requirements; complex building materials, systems, details, and construction techniques, primary structural and MEP/FP systems and their operation, and secondary building systems

Advanced knowledge of the Owner/Architect agreement, project schedule, and project budget parameters

Working knowledge of AIA standard contracts, contract terms and conditions, and customary scope of services and standard of care provided by architectural firms

Command of business management tools including Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Newforma, and Teams

Expert understanding of the capabilities and application of multiple software platforms, including Revit and other modeling software and graphic illustration software programs. Capable of leading in a digital and graphic environment

Perform Other Duties as Assigned

Participates in Studio and Firm events

Attends Industry and Business Development Events

Contributes to Firm activities to promote staff education

Qualifications

Accredited professional degree in Architecture

A minimum of 10 years post-graduate, full-time work experience.

Licensed to practice Architecture in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

LEED AP

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to effectively lead client and consultant meetings
