SummaryThe Capital Project Engineer will work on capital and non-routine maintenance projects for the James Hardie Reno Engineering team. The Capital Project Engineer will report to the site Plant Manager. This person must have extensive working knowledge of design, function, specification, and installation of industrial equipment in a heavy manufacturing environment. Project work will include all aspects of new equipment installations, end of asset life replacement, civil/structural/paving upgrades, and safety/reliability/process improvements in the context of a 24/7 manufacturing environment. In order to be effective in this role, the person should have 5+ years of experience overseeing capital projects that include design, developing specifications and installing material storage, handling, conveying, and processing equipment as well as general industrial operations and construction. Travel may be included in the role for training or project specific needs; however, it is largely based in their respective plants. Business travel would likely not exceed 25% per month, and less than 5% per year.
What Youll Do:- Participate in executing administrative plant safety systems as required by the role
- Develop full scopes of work for use in soliciting general contractor proposals including all site utilities, civil and structural works, buildings, process equipment and exterior paving.
- Prepare requests for quotation documentation, solicit / review bids, and award contracts.
- Prepare full project budgetary estimate and schedule.
- Write Capital Expenditure Requests and prepare Front End Loading presentations to justify project business case, and communicate to stakeholders and financiers
- Coordinate and lead design review meetings pertaining to process requirements, equipment design / layout, piping and instrumentation diagrams, utilities, and HAZOP study.
- Coordinate with the local and central EH&S team and manage project permit applications as required
- Create detailed commissioning plans for use in equipment checkout and systems startup.
- Manage active construction, deployment, and commissioning of all elements of capital projects
- Work within an outlined capital process that includes co-ordination with plant stakeholders, central review, and external vendors and compliance with Global James Hardie Standards
- Assist with project standards development, mentoring of junior engineers, and similar administrative support of the engineering department
- Collaborate with plant production and maintenance personnel to deliver all required documentation, manuals, drawings, procedures, spare parts, SOPs, energy control procedures and training, for the successful integration of project work into the production environment.
- Perform / participate in HazOp studies and implement solutions during project execution.
- BS Degree in Engineering (Prefer Mechanical/Electrical, but other degrees with relevant experience will be considered). Degree must be from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience managing heavy industrial capital projects
- Experience working with municipalities and permitting agencies
- Strong background in mechanical and electrical equipment specification and general construction
- Knowledge of International Building Codes and OSHA standards.
- Knowledge of AWS, ANSI, and ASTM standards.
- Excellent personal computer skills with software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, Outlook, Internet Explorer in Windows10 environments
- Strong engineering software skills with platforms including AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other design-based tools
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare and present information to senior management.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and a willingness to work independently
- Must be able to manage multiple projects in various lifecycle stages
- Must take initiative and be results oriented
- Must be able to lead and be a part of cross functional teams.
- Specific experience designing / sizing piping system, tanks, pumps, batching equipment, material storage silos, material transfer & conveying systems, grinding equipment, mixing systems, compressors, pumps, boilers, hydraulic / pneumatic systems, etc. that align with process / production requirements
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E & NFPA 70
