About the role

Passionate about WiFi Design Engineering? Your next role will be to build a team to support a service providing with a cutting edge network to support WiFi service delivery. Were on the lookout for an enthusiastic and personable WiFi Design Engineer who can ensure that wireless networks provide reliable and high-performance connectivity to meet the specific needs of businesses and organizations. Based in our modern Oakland office you will be responsible for the backbone of our clients communication structure.

What youll be doing

As part of the Operations Organization, youll help to ensure our enterprise WiFi design standards are met. At all levels, colleagues will rely on your expertise to architect network design plans that consider factors like signal propagation, data rates, and capacity. Its a role with a lot of variety, and day-to-day, youll mainly be involved with:

• Use of Ekahau or Hamina to create detailed Wi-Fi RF Designs

• Thorough understanding of construction architecture drawings and construction materials as it relates to RF propagation
• Meticulous detail to preparing floor plans for predictive RF analysis
• Ability to perform predictive designs and active design and validation efforts
• Ability to conduct site surveys with top industry tools in pre-design or post design capacities with customer facing quality.
• Knowledge of ANSI/ TIA/ EIA standards and understanding cabling requirements for WLAN APs
• Interface with customers in pre-sales engagements to obtain coverage and performance requirements
• Deep understanding of IEEE 802.11 protocols and RF requirements for proper performance of those protocols
• Able to create complex designs for Aruba, Cisco, Extreme Networks, and Ruckus WLAN OEMs
• Ability to understand antenna propagation patterns to select proper antenna accessories for APs
• Create basic network diagrams
• Create bill of materials for WLAN design
• Create detailed documentation suitable for low voltage subcontractor implementation of WLAN design, including cabling standards
• Communicate expectations to low voltage subcontractors for proper antenna mounting and tilt
• Oversee implementation of designs to ensure that subcontractor successfully installs to expectations

• Bachelors Degree required from accredited university; Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or Physics preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience designing Wi-Fi networks
• Minimum of three (3) years hands on experience conducting site surveys
• Understanding of physics of RF
• Strong communication skills with ability to distill technical topics and present them to customer stakeholders
• Self-starter that can manage and prioritize day to day activities and plan to address long-term needs
