The Project Engineer I plays a critical role in driving projects from inception to completion, overseeing complex designs to ensure successful outcomes. Key responsibilities include identifying and addressing potential risks early in the project life-cycle, creating solutions to mitigate those risks, and ensuring the project stays on track. The role also involves fostering strong relationships with clients by delivering high-quality results and providing ongoing support. In addition to leading all aspects of the project within their specific discipline, the Project Engineer I is responsible for setting priorities, delegating tasks, and guiding team members toward project success. This position demands strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to effectively manage both people and projects.
Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of a project design from the initial concept design through the startup and commissioning process, ensuring each phase meets design standards and project goals.
Proactively identifies project risks early and produces solutions by understanding key project levers and drivers.
Build and maintain client relationships through regular communication, follow up, and feedback gathering during and between active projects.
Lead multi-discipline projects by having working knowledge of all design disciplines.
Prioritize and delegate tasks effectively by aligning team members' skills with project needs and schedules.
Drives information sharing and communication with design disciplines, field contacts, clients, vendors, utilities, and governing agencies to ensure alignment and clarity.
Leads site trips effectively by planning, working with onsite teams, and processing information after returning.
Collaborate on estimates by working with project managers and estimators.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues alongside field personnel to maintain project flow and address challenges quickly.
Mentor and develop team members by delegating responsibilities for growth, reviewing deliverables, and providing feedback.
Conduct peer reviews and approve drawings to maintain quality (PE stamping if applicable).
Secondary Responsibilities:
Lead team, lane, or project meetings to process issues, facilitate discussions, and ensure follow-up actions.
Apply hands-on experience from panel shop, prefabrication, or field work to enhance design knowledge.
