Building Construction Inspector 4 - Plans Examiner

The Position

Building Construction Inspectors perform a variety of building construction inspections and contract administration work requiring a broad knowledge of construction principles and practices of all phases of construction including plumbing, heating, electrical, structural design, air conditioning and landscaping.

Under general direction of the Chief Building Inspector, incumbents function as a Plans Examiner and examine plans for code compliance including preliminary and final construction documents of new and remodeled buildings using State regulations and adopted codes; identify corrective action where needed and prepare concise Plan Review Comment forms to inform the applicant, other State agencies, and officials in relevant jurisdictions of required corrections; discuss findings with applicants as needed; review and approve change orders as required; attend preconstruction conferences as needed. While incumbents are expected to be able to perform the full range of duties described in the series concept, their preponderant responsibility is as a Plans Examiner.

This recruitment is for a Building Construction Inspector 4 Plans Examiner position, located in Carson City within the Division of State Public Works. Under the direction of the Building Official, this position is responsible for the examination of plans. The incumbent will perform duties at journey level for all disciplines of design and construction for buildings and structures on State of Nevada owned property. The incumbent will perform plans reviews based in the Reno or Carson City offices and perform site inspections as needed. The incumbent will ensure compliance with all applicable codes, will perform plans examination and inspections for plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility, structural design, building, and landscaping. Access to Nevada Department of Corrections and Nevada Military areas will require separate background checks, at no cost to the applicant.
