About this Position Energy Services provides chilled water, steam, and potable water from three different industrial plants across campus that is used for building heating and air conditioning, as well as domestic water use. Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for preventive, routine, and reactive maintenance of all chilled water, steam, and domestic water production equipment, such as chillers, boilers, pumps, air compressors, VFDs, filters, and cooling towers. Specific Maintenance Mechanic duties include: Perform routine mechanical maintenance on primary and auxiliary production equipment to ensure reliable and continuous plant operations. Install, modify, and upgrade plant production equipment and infrastructure systems. Test and operate equipment to analyze various plant systems and equipment. Perform plant general maintenance duties as scheduled, including the cleaning of plant equipment, machinery, and tools, to maintain integrity of production assets inventory and the general industrial environment. Agility and good eye-hand coordination are required to perform work around industrial machinery and high-voltage electrical equipment. The Central Plant runs 24/7/365. The employee in this position is required to work 40 hours a week, typically Monday through Friday, and work overtime, including weekends and holidays, when management deems necessary. The employee in this position must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use. Must work safely, adhere to all safety requirements, and promote a safe work environment. Work takes place in state-of-the-art steam, chilled water, and water treatment plants with exposure to industrial machinery, rotating equipment, high voltage electrical service, hot steam, chemicals, and noise. Regular exposure to noise and possible exposure to chemicals and dust. Physical requirements for routine activities include, but are not limited to, the ability to ascend and descend stairs or ladders, work at heights on elevated surfaces, work in confined spaces(occasionally), work in a stationary position for an extended period of time, and general stamina and agility. This position may require manual labor and occasionally the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. Required Qualifications High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date) Cent Pl Mnt Mech I - Two years of demonstrated work experience. Cent Pl Mnt Mech II - Three years of industrial mechanic work experience, preferably with utilities production equipment. Cent Pl Mnt Mech III - Six years of industrial mechanic work experience, preferably with utilities production equipment. Cent Pl Mnt Mech IV - Ten years of industrial mechanic work experience, preferably with utilities production equipment. One year or 600 hours of vocational/technical training in a mechanical or electrical field may substitute for one year of required experience. Preference will be given to post-secondary education in mechanical, electrical or industrial operations. Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability. Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Have a valid drivers license, which must be maintained during employment. A valid drivers license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Cent Pl Mtn Mech I - Have or acquire within 12 months after hire an EPA Refrigerant Handler Type II certification. Cent Pl Mnt Mech II - Bearings and Steam Trap class completions. EPA Refrigeration Handler Type II certification upon hire. Cent Pl Mnt Mech Ill - Bearings, Steam Trap, Variable Frequency Drive, and Pump class completions. EPA Refrigeration Handler Type II certification upon hire. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) class completion as indicated by ES training records. Cent Pl Mnt Mech IV - Bearings, Steam Trap, Variable Frequency Drive, and Pump class completions. EPA Refrigeration Handler Type II certification upon hire. Capable of training and supervising other mechanics as needed. Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Must be able to follow directions as presented by the supervisor, be computer literate, be a positive team player, and be capable of working independently as directed in the performance of some routine duties. Ability to become proficient in the use of AiM Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. Preferred Qualifications Vocational/Technical Mechanical or Electrical Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Oklahoma DEQ Class D Water Operators license upon hire or within 90-days.
