Summary:

Under general supervision is the considered the primary point-of-contact for repairs replacement and installation of locks at Rhode Island Hospital. Responsible for making keys. Coordinates the keying of new areas or suites with the contractor. Works with the security department on securing areas. Maintains inventories of keys for all areas. Designs constructs installs and repairs wooden fixtures and structures such as cabinets furniture shelves doors and partitions. Performs finish and rough carpentry duties on assigned tasks.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates the keying of new areas or suites with the contractor. Works with the security department to ensure required area is secured. Responsible for controlling key for all areas including maintaining an accurate inventory of keys and the locks they belong to.

Removes and replaces broken locks doorknobs and door hardware.

Repairs broken locks doorknobs and door hardware if repairable. Repairs emergency exit devices and automatic door openers.

Installs locks for areas that previously had no locks.

Makes keys for locks where no key is available or duplicates are needed. Opens locked doors or cabinets where the keys have been lost or stolen.

Re-keys locks.

Receives work orders oral instructions and reads blueprints or rough sketches in order to determine procedures for designing constructing repairing or installing items.

Measures and cuts materials to prescribed dimensions using hand and power saws.

Repairs or rebuilds furniture cabinets partitions and other wooden objects.

Constructs new wooden furniture and equipment. Designs and builds cabinets that must fit a specific area medical exhibits shelving and crates.

Installs Formica on counter tops door frames and doors weather-stripping vinyl floors and ceramic tiles.

Constructs wooden frames and pours concrete walkways and floors.

Performs duties such as installation of window shades and drapery rods hangs picture frames constructs sign holders and installs locks.

Erects drywall partitions and suspended ceilings.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Completion of High School or Vocational School.

Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints and sketches.

Ability to use and operate electrical equipment such as saws and drills.

Ability and knowledge of various kinds of locks and keys.

EXPERIENCE:

At least four years experience as a Journeyman Carpenter.

Two years' experience working with locks doors and keying systems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
