Undergraduate Intern - Electrical Engineering (AMI)

The Naperville Electric Department is seeking a self-motivated Electrical Engineering Intern looking to add meaningful value to an Electric Utilitys engineering and operations. The Intern will get the opportunity to learn the Electric Distribution System, Substations, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) systems, while understanding how the utilities different departments operate within a unified leadership. A rotation through varying sections will provide a variety of experiences to help you grow as an Engineer. The hours are Monday - Friday (7 am - 3:30 pm), mid-May to mid-August. This position is an excellent opportunity to network with City employees and to learn and work for a very progressive organization.
  • Develop SQL Queries and Meter Data Management System dashboards to enhance engineering and operational capabilities.
  • Assist the Engineering team in Meter Validation Failure corrections in Meter Data Management System.
  • Validate and correct irregularities in MDMS and AMI records.
  • Inspect Metering & Distribution Field Equipment
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Junior or Senior enrolled in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering Program.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to professionally communicate with customers.
  • Must be able to walk through uneven terrain and in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be fluent in Microsoft Office applications and willing to learn City Works Serve Request application.
  • Must be able to work independently and be motivated to learn.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License. Applicants should possess a driving history with no moving violations for at least the last twelve (12) months.
