This position assists the Aquatics Supervisor in the day to day operation and maintenance of the citys swimming pools and aquatics facilities. Major Duties
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness of pool area and/or facility; tests and maintains chemical balances in pools; adjusts chemicals based on test results; vacuums, sweeps and cleans pools, deck areas, diving boards, entry ways, sidewalks and other fixtures.
  • Monitors and maintains equipment and facilities; provides repair and/or servicing of pool equipment, flooring, surfaces, and other equipment of assigned area.
  • Assists with the order of all equipment, products, and supplies pertaining to swimming pools.
  • Monitors supplies and equipment inventory; evaluates and determines supply needs; prepares purchase requests and/or purchases items within established guidelines.
  • Manage records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations and City policy, guidance and records retention schedule.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Aquatics Supervisor/Parks Manager.

  • Guidelines include department standard operating procedures and relevant city, state, and federal codes, laws, and regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
  • Rec Aide- Lifeguard 1 & 2
  • Rec Aide- Head Lifeguard
Education/Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of pool operator experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification from the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA);
  • Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross.

Knowledge Requirements
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance of a swimming pool.
  • Knowledge of safe swimming practices.
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and other standard office equipment.
  • Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
Other Requirements
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
The work is typically performed in an office or in and around a swimming pool while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or swimming. The employee may be exposed to much noise, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.
