MACHINE SHOP SUPERVISOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
REPORTS TO: PRODUCTION MANAGER
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: FULL-TIME
Position Summary: The Machine Shop Supervisor is a position that is very hands-on, knowledgeable, has interpersonal communication skills to support and lead a large group of employees. This position is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the production floor. The supervisor oversees the planning, scheduling, tasking, training, and mentorship within the shop to develop team members and meet delivery deadlines. It is expected that the supervisor will set up and run machines daily.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program CNC Machines
Design fixtures for machining parts
Provide leadership, support, guidance, and mentorship to team members
Coordinate and assist engineering and production team members in troubleshooting and resolving issues
Provides leadership/direction to ensure all affordability initiatives and opportunities for process improvements are systematically identified, pursued, and supported
Review documentation such as travelers, assembly procedures, and test procedures
Leads and directs work for team of employees as defined by business needs
Use company goals and priorities to create a workplan
Ensures team members receive the required training and prepares the daily work plans in support of overall program objectives
Coordinate procurement of supplies and materials
Communicate challenges and potential solutions with leadership
Evaluate production processes for efficiency
Develop familiarity with all fabrication and final assembly related tasks and processes
Maintains necessary records/documents of production work performed
Effectively interacts with difficult and sensitive personnel situations using good judgment
Ensures proper use of tools, equipment, and materials used within the production department, while maintaining a safe and clean working environment that will ensure the safety of all employees
Required participation in internal training as needed to perform the duties assigned to this role.
Assists with performance evaluations for employees
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
U.S. Person status required do to export control
High School or GED required
12 years of manufacturing experience required
Strong leadership and effective interpersonal skills
Experience with composites materials and processes highly desired
Strong attention to detail
Solid experience in production support, leading a team of staff members
Capable of standing and or sitting for extended periods of time
Must be well organized, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Must thrive in a team-oriented and deadline-driven environment
Ability to plan, set priorities for the team and direct technical efforts to meet targets
Ability to verbally communicate, read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English
Familiarity and skill with interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
Demonstrated proficiency in MasterCam, MS Office programs- Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Adobe Acrobat
Able to use judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Constant Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working on the manufacturing floor. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
