Senior Structural Civil Engineer

Radiant is looking for a Senior Structural Civil Engineer to design and develop reliable metallic and cement structures for reactor systems, including shielding and foundation structures. You will design safety critical systems that withstand natural loads (seismic, flood, wind) as well as soil interactions. You will collaborate across multiple engineering and operations teams to ensure the operation of a safe, performant reactor that meets regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for the following: trade studies, material selection, detailed structural analysis, assembly, integration, and testing. You will own an instrumental subsystem and make an impact on bringing Earth's first mass-produced nuclear reactor to market.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own the design, analysis, integration and testing of safety critical reactor structures including shielding systems, foundational structures, and container systems.

  • Conduct trade studies and develop designs to meet programs requirements for structural loads, natural phenomena (i.e. earthquakes), and foundation builds.

  • Develop and execute manufacturing/assembly instructions and test plans:

  • Create and manage a Bill-Of-Materials (BOM).

  • Find and develop suppliers for all components

  • Own subassembly design, manufacturing, and test schedules.

  • Own risk analysis (FMEA) for subsystems.

  • Collect requirements, provide expertise and feedback to engineers in other functional areas via clear, constructive communication.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical, Materials, Aeronautical, Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience civil structural engineering.
  • Familiarity with relevant civil/structural codes such as ASCE/SEI 7, ACI-349, ACI-318, AISC-N690, or AISC-360

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with design of multi-component assemblies in CAD (NX or similar).
  • Experience resolving thermal expansion issues in designs.
  • Experienced in design for manufacturability and ramping up hardware build in a production environment.
  • Experience designing cement-based structures.
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T.
  • Proficiency with both "hand calc" analytical methods and higher fidelity finite element-based analysis methods.
  • Takes extreme ownership of work and a high degree of responsibility.
  • Excellent communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prior nuclear experience in not required for this role.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
  • Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
