Public Works/Steam Plant - Plant Auxiliary Operator

The purpose of the class is to perform a variety of duties in support of the operation of the Steam Plant. The class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment (forklift, backhoe, dump truck, crane truck etc), overhead bridge cranes or closely related experience.
• Must meet the Citys required medical standards as determined by a licensed physician.
• Must successfully pass testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the Citys current substance abuse policy.
• Must possess a valid drivers license and must have and maintain a satisfactory drivers record based on the City of Hamptons criteria.
• Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B within 180 days of employment.
• Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• Requires shift work to include nights, weekends, holidays and on call emergency standby.
• Must be able to operate a crane stationed 20-60 feet above ground.
• The incumbent may be considered essential personnel during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
