2025-2026 Plumber - Facilities Department

The Montgomery County School Board, Virginia, is now accepting applications for a Plumber position that is available in the division beginning July 1, 2025.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Plumber is required to perform a variety of tasks in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment for all MCPS property within the county to maintain a condition of operating excellence. The Plumber must possess the ability to work independently or as part of a team to perform maintenance and make repairs, interior and exterior, to water, gas, oil, sewer, and storm drain systems. The Plumber also works independently or as part of a team to assist, within skill level, all other maintenance personnel when needed in painting, masonry, grounds maintenance, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Virginia driver's license
• Must obtain license (Journeyman card in two years; Master's card in six years)
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability and willingness to follow written and oral directions
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Possess effective mechanical aptitude
• Posses a working knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the plumbing trade
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations and commitment to maintain a safe work environment
• Ability and willingness to work in adverse weather conditions
• Ability and willingness to cooperate with other staff members to perform and document all work
• Ability and willingness to work from sketches, blueprints, oral, and written instructions
• Ability and willingness to perform tasks requiring moderate physical strength (50#) including climbing, use of extension ladders, and walking on beams
• Ability to read basic operating instructions
• Ability and willingness to adapt to changes in the work environment
• Must be dependable and punctual
• Ability and willingness to work a revised work schedule as emergencies or operational needs require

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of five years combined experience as a plumber in industrial or commercial facilities
• Technology skills

Salary: $36,341.00 - $70,892.87 annually, with benefits, depending on experience (salary may change due to 2025-2026 budget considerations)
