Job Title: Ironworker Press Operator

Job Overview:

An Ironworker Press Operator operates and maintains mechanical or hydraulic presses used for shaping, cutting, or bending metal parts in the construction and fabrication industry. The role involves working with heavy machinery to ensure the accurate production of metal components according to design specifications and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Operation:

Operate and monitor mechanical and hydraulic presses to shape, form, cut, or bend metal components according to specifications.

Set up and adjust press machines, dies, and tools to ensure precise and efficient operations.

Monitor press machines during operation to ensure consistent quality and to avoid malfunctions or defects.

Material Handling:

Load and unload metal materials onto the press machines, ensuring proper alignment and secure placement.

Inspect materials for quality, ensuring that only materials meeting specifications are used in the press.

Blueprint & Specification Interpretation:

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to understand production requirements, including dimensions, materials, and tolerances.

Follow detailed work instructions to ensure parts are fabricated according to the specifications provided.

Quality Control:

Inspect finished products for defects, ensuring they meet both company standards and customer specifications.

Perform dimensional checks using calipers, micrometers, or other measuring instruments to verify accuracy.

Adjust machines, dies, and settings as needed to correct any issues and maintain product quality.

Preventative Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on press machines and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and make adjustments to prevent production delays or equipment damage.

Safety & Compliance:

Adhere to all safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure the work area is safe and clean.

Follow safety protocols when operating presses, handling raw materials, and working with heavy machinery.

Collaboration:

Work closely with other ironworkers, fabricators, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of projects.

Communicate any issues or delays to management to facilitate timely solutions.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of production activities, including material usage, machine settings, and finished product quantities.

Report any defects, accidents, or safety concerns to the supervisor.

Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience as a press / punch operator, ironworker, or in a related field.

Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and maintain press machines.

Knowledge of metalworking techniques and materials, including knowledge of various types of metal and their properties.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.

Proficient with measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure precise dimensions.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Good communication skills to work with supervisors and team members.

High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machine operation is a plus.
