Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervising inspection staff, including coordinating inspections, scheduling training and assigning projects
  • Managing and overseeing construction inspection activities across municipal infrastructure projects
  • Reviewing and approving development and capital improvement projects for compliance
  • Working with your team to conduct inspections for roadways, sidewalks, stormwater systems and public infrastructure, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local construction regulations and city policies.
  • Reviewing and recommending approval for escrow releases and project acceptance
  • Collaborating with Project Managers and Engineers during planning and permitting phases. You will work closely with the Construction Inspector Supervisor.
  • Maintaining and updating construction inspection procedures and policies to improve efficiency.
  • Coordinating with contractors, utility companies, city staff and the public on project matters

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise in construction practices and inspection methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles related to infrastructure and development.
  • Familiarity with construction codes and regulations (MoDOT LPA processes a plus).
  • Leadership, communication and problem-solving skills to manage inspection teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field are preferred
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in construction or infrastructure inspection.
  • 4-6 years of experience in a public sector construction inspection role.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in construction inspection or a similar field.
  • Ability to obtain key certifications:
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I (within 1 year)
  • APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) (within 3 years)
  • MoDOT LPA Basics Course to qualify as Person of Responsible Charge

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Fieldwork in various weather conditions and construction environments.
  • Physical activity such as walking, bending and lifting inspection tools/equipment.
