Working under the general supervision of the Building Commissioner, the Plans Examiner performs complex technical work in plan review and building inspection work to insure that the Building Code and other related codes and standards are met.

The annual pay range for this position is $78,161 - $99,635.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Enforces building-related codes and ordinances

* Performs on-site inspections of construction when staffing availability places undue demands upon the department.

* Examines complex architectural and structural plans to determine that the design complies with the adopted codes and ordinances regulating construction.

* Maintains records of plan review activity, completes related reports and communicates plan review observations in writing to the designer, contractor, and/or owner.

* Assists in researching solutions to technical code issues. Evaluates proposals for equivalency and makes recommendations to the Building Commissioner.

* Responds to field issues related to the building construction process. Assists in resolving problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, building construction and code compliance.

* Assists in resolving complex and sensitive customer service issues, either personally, by telephone or in writing. Maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions.

* Facilitates meeting with building owners, architects, engineers, geotechnical consultants, code consultants and other design team members to discuss code related issues regarding the design and construction of proposed projects.

* All other duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: (A) Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent, and (B) Eight (8) years of experience in construction inspection, general construction and related fields, or (C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
