The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all safety policies, procedures, and programs are effectively implemented across all construction sites. This role involves proactive risk assessment, safety training, incident investigation, and compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations. The Construction Safety Manager works closely with project managers, contractors, and site workers to promote a culture of safety.

Develop and Implement Safety Policies:

  • Create and enforce safety policies and procedures tailored to each construction project.
  • Regularly review and update safety programs to align with current regulations and industry standards.
  • Provide strategic safety planning and input for new construction projects.

Site Inspections and Audits:

  • Conduct regular on-site safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
  • Ensure all safety violations are addressed promptly and that corrective actions are documented and implemented.
  • Work with site supervisors to monitor adherence to safety protocols.

Risk Assessment and Management:

  • Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for ongoing and upcoming construction activities.
  • Recommend preventive measures to minimize risks and implement effective safety solutions.

Training and Safety Awareness:

  • Develop and deliver safety training sessions for all employees and contractors.
  • Ensure all workers, including new hires, receive adequate safety orientation and education.
  • Promote a culture of safety through regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and workshops.

Incident Response and Investigation:

  • Respond to and investigate accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents on construction sites.
  • Analyze the causes of incidents and prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Track and ensure the implementation of corrective measures to prevent future incidents.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, local safety regulations, and industry-specific safety requirements.
  • Keep abreast of changes in safety laws and implement necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports required by regulatory authorities.

Safety Equipment Management:

  • Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety gear.
  • Monitor and manage the inspection, maintenance, and functionality of safety equipment.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and drills.
  • Coordinate with emergency response teams and local authorities as needed.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and site personnel to integrate safety into all aspects of the construction process.
  • Function as the main point of contact for all safety-related concerns and provide clear communication to all stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively interact with teams and enforce safety practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple construction sites and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Other duties as assigned in relation to the estimating position.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or other relevant safety certifications are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management.

Training and Education:

  • Self-Development Courses when applicable.
  • OSHA 500 (preferred or receive within 6 months from date of hire)
  • Other training as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field. (Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments typical of construction sites.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • May require travel to multiple construction sites.

Must be able to pass a background and drug screen.
