Position Summary:
Under theleadership of a Foreperson or other supervisor within the Division of RealEstate Development and Capital Operations, independently performs basicmaintenance, construction, repairs, or mechanical adjustment work functions toassure campus facilities are properly maintained with emphasis on health,safety and the comfort of occupants.

Essential Functions:
The Maintenance Mechanic works independently and assists as amember of a group, and must draw upon a variety of skills to perform various assignedwork tasks. Assists with instructing andtraining others in the functions of this position. These functions include, but are not limitedto the following areas:

-Carpentry: Performrepairs, maintenance and renovations to buildings and other facilities relatedto cabinet making, doors, windows, screens, glass partitions, plywood, ceilingtile, drywall, furniture, office partitions, drapery rods, blinds, shower andtoilet partitions, floor tile, carpeting, construction hardware and fastenersand other carpentry craft items.
-Painting: Scrape, prime,paint, varnish, stain and other painting craft functions. Operatespower-washing and spray equipment. Removesgraffiti as needed.
-Electrical: Installand service power circuits, switches, receptacles, light fixtures, exit lights,stoves, fans, portable air conditioners, smoke/heat/CO detectors, includingwiring and operating electrical and fire devices and systems.
-Mechanical: Install, inspect,repair or maintain filters, controls, motors, generators, pumps, burners,dampers, ductwork, actuators and other types of heating, ventilating, airconditioning equipment, and other mechanical devices. Adjustment and minor repair of digital orpneumatic automatic temperature controls and thermostats.
-Plumbing: Install andrepair waste lines, water lines, gas lines, water fountains, pipes, plumbing,heating and cooling equipment, toilet bowls, wash basins, urinals, fixtures,laundry machines, process piping, pumps, valves and make adjustments to balancingvalves.
-General Maintenance: Install,inspect, repair and maintain kitchen equipment, emergency exit lights, audibledevices, fire equipment, entrance gates, security doors, masonry work, roofsand removes debris as directed. Completesrepair and preventive maintenance work orders, as assigned. Move furniture and equipment as necessary. Mustpossess the ability to operate and use power and hand tools used in thecrafts. Operates, stores, safeguardsequipment, materials, tools and supplies. Will maintain logs and record readings and other operating data, whichare required for normal maintenance and preventative maintenance schedules. Will safeguard the confidentiality of universitypersonnel records, files, fiscal data, correspondence and similar confidentialmaterials.
-Safety: The Maintenance Mechanic will adhere to theuniversitys safety policies and procedures and maintain the campus and theirwork areas in a safe, clean, organized and well maintained condition. Will have general knowledge of safetyprecautions and of potential hazardous conditions. When possible, will remediate hazardous andunsafe conditions. Will report anyunsafe conditions or any damage to equipment or buildings, to their supervisoror manager.

-Performs other duties as necessary or when directed.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Must havegraduated from high school, vocational school or possess an approved highschool equivalence certificate, with Five (5) years of related experience inthe crafts. Knowledge of methods, toolsand supplies used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and theirfixtures, appliances, furnishings and fittings. Ability to do general maintenance and repairwork of varied types under the supervision of a foreperson or experiencedcrafts person.
-Must havegraduated from high school, vocational school or possess an approved highschool equivalence certificate, with Five (5) years of related experience inthe crafts. Knowledge of methods, toolsand supplies used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and theirfixtures, appliances, furnishings and fittings. Ability to do general maintenance and repairwork of varied types under the supervision of a foreperson or experiencedcrafts person.
-Must possess the ability to understand and communicate oraland written instructions.
-Ability to move, lift or exert force sometimes over 100pounds on equipment, materials and tools. Must be able to work on feet for long periods of time, climb any type ofextension or other ladder, balance, reach, stoop, kneel and stretch withinlimited size and potentially dangerous areas including roofs, attic and crawlspaces. Able to work inside and outdoorsduring all seasons and weather conditions. Able to work in extreme cold and heat conditions.
-Must possessknowledge of all related building codes.
-Must possessthe ability to understand and issue oral and written instructions.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
