Electrician II (Support Services)

All employees hired after September 1, 1986,must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the Countyas a condition of their employment. Theresidency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civilservice employees. This means exemption fromthis policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1)Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by theSheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections,(3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County FireDepartment. The residency exemption forpublic safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions withSheriffs Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.

Position Summary

Worksunder limited supervision to install and maintain electrical systems.

Pay Grade: 51H

SalaryCommensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

1.Two (2) years of experience as alicensed journeyman in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment;AND

2. High school diploma or possess a GED; OR

3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OREXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Troubleshoots, installs, repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatuses, and controlequipment.

2. Performsinstallations to minimize waste of materials.

3. Provides accessfor future maintenance and avoids unsightly hazardous and unreliable wiringconsistent with specifications and local electrical codes.

4. Preparessketches showing location of all wiring and equipment or follows diagramsprepared by others (schematics).

5. Measures, cuts,bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using such tools ashacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bander.

6. Testscontinuity of circuit using ohmmeter, battery, buzzer, and oscilloscope toensure electrical compatibility and safety of all components.

7. Performsrelated responsibilities as required or directed.

1. Ability to interpret electrical schematics.

2. Ability to use a variety of electrical testing equipment.

3. Ability to plan and carry out electrical installationsand maintenance in conformance with required codes.

4. Ability to establish and maintain an effective workingrelationship with others.

SpecialRequirements

1. Musthave a Journeymans license.

2. Mustpass a physical examination.
