Boulder County Community Planning and Permitting department is seeking to hire a Bilingual Building Inspector, Combination. The Bilingual Building Inspector, Combination position is a mid-level classification. The Combination Building Inspector performs technical inspection duties, to include building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical in the enforcement of building codes and ordinances. This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday through Thursday 7am to 5:30pm - This schedule has the option for some flexibility. This position will work out of the Courthouse Annex at 2045 13th Street in Boulder, CO. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Examples of Duties Inspect commercial and residential buildings under construction, repair, or remodeling for compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes, as well as local ordinances. Conduct annual and bi-annual inspections for marijuana, liquor, vacation rental, and short-term rental licenses. Review building construction plans, associated documents and manuals to ensure compliance with relevant codes and ordinances, identifying discrepancies between plans and actual construction. Provide written and verbal guidance to builders, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders regarding corrections, discrepancies, inquiries, and compliance with building codes and ordinances. Stay updated on new, revised, and existing building codes and ordinances. Recommend modifications to County officials regarding codes and ordinances. Conduct initial intake and review of engineer letters related to soils, footings, foundations, structural framing, insulation/HERS, fire suppression systems, and sanitary provisions for code compliance. Communicate necessary adjustments to construction plans to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances. Train and provide general direction to new team members. Perform related duties as required. Supplemental Information PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certification: Preferred qualification includes a State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician's license, or eligibility to obtain a State Commercial and Residential Electrical Inspector License under CRS 12-23-115. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive understanding of modern building construction methods and practices, and relevant building and electrical codes and ordinances. Ability to identify hazards and violations and recommend corrective actions. Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, blueprints, and specifications, and comparing them to ongoing construction. Capability to achieve ICBO certifications in Uniform Building, Mechanical, Plumbing Codes, and National Electrical Code.
