The Maintenance and Construction Worker is s a full time 12-month staff position that will assist with building maintenance and construction for the Building Maintenance and Construction Department. moving, delivery, and event setup and take down. The position will primarily fulfill requests and address emergencies in building maintenance repairs, but should also be flexible to serve as a member of the project team for performing construction trades, underground utility work heavy equipment operation, and concrete forming and pouring assistance reporting to the Assistant Director of Physical Plant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Preferred high school diploma or equivalent
- Certified lift operator training completion required upon hire
- Must have and maintain the physical ability, positive attitude and skills to be self-directed in the process of completing minor work orders
- Experience with heavy equipment operation considered a plus
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to work orders in the following areas:
Windows, glass, and hardware
Window blinds
Door hardware installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance including closers, panics, locksets, etc.
Floor and carpet tile repair
Wall and base repair
Suspended ceiling repair and tile replacement
Mount signs and other items on walls
Roof leaks - first responder
Install, mount, and assemble office and classroom furniture and equipment.
Assist in general rough and fine carpentry work, interior and exterior, including, but not limited to the following:
Roof and wall repairs
Installing or replacing doors, frames, and hardware.
Framing walls, ceilings, etc. with wood and metal studs.
Hanging and finishing sheet rock.
Installing acoustic ceiling grid and tile.
Installing carpet tile, VCT, and ceramic tile, and rubber base.
Assist in building and set concrete forms; assist in pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalks, curbs, and slabs.
Perform demolition work including sidewalks, curbs, CMU walls, poured concrete walls, stud walls, doors, windows, ceilings, and flooring removal.
Perform general rough carpentry work, interior and exterior. Assist with minor CMU block and concrete repair.
Dig and fill ditches at repair sites for repair to underground utilities including water, sewer, and storm drainage.
Perform moving and event duties requiring heavy lifting or large-scale projects including relocation of furniture, equipment, and appliances for department moves.
Respond to after hour emergencies and inclement weather events.
Participate in daily crew meetings. Attend safety meetings.
Adhere to all health and safety precautions.
Maintain a professional work environment, abiding by NWCC rules and policies.
Any and all other duties as assigned by Director/ Assistant Director of College Construction and Maintenance
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Some computer skills to for electronic work order entry and key control software entry
- Must be able to read, interpret, and follow construction drawings and follow verbal instructions related to construction
- Skilled experience in minor construction and/ or carpentry repair
- Experience with hand and power hand tools for carpentry and minor construction
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Experience in construction or maintenance related field
- Experience with heavy equipment operation
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with staff and others.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
- Talk, hear, and review set up
- Communicate with others in person
- Operate heavy equipment
- Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds, continuous walking, climb and work from ladder/ lift. Overhead work is required.
- Must have ability to continuously walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, and squat.
- Must be able to work in all outdoor seasonal conditions
- Must be able to perform high work requiring stretching and reaching above head and shoulders, work from ladders, scaffold, or lift
