Summary:
This announcement will be used to fill a vacancy at the North Idaho Correctional Institution (NICI), in Cottonwood, Idaho. Utility Craftsman positions are considered journey level construction workers involved in all aspects of inside and outside construction and building trades type work. The position also performs maintenance tasks in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC related work in an institutional setting. Candidate will also serve as the back-up water and wastewater operator at the North Idaho Correctional Institution.
Responsibilities:
- Performs maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment.
- Maintains and performs routine repairs on fire detection systems.
- Performs minor electrical repairs Performs maintenance functions on plumbing valves, fixtures, pumps, etc.
- Maintains structures to include painting, flooring, lighting, ceilings, etc.
- Maintains shop and shop equipment in good working order.
- Maintains and repairs asphalt and concrete roadways and walkways.
- Repairs and maintains locks and door hardware.
- Performs snow and ice removal from walkways and roadways.
- Serves as back-up water & wastewater operator.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good knowledge of construction and building trades work. Typically gained by specific education or work experience at the journey level (a minimum of four years) in at least one of the following construction trades; Carpentry or concrete. This work must also be supplemented by knowledge, education or experience in two other trade skill areas, i.e., mechanics, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or related field.
- Experience operating and maintaining equipment associated with construction and building trades and grounds maintenance. Applicant must have operated a variety of light and heavy equipment such as fork lifts, loaders, backhoe and dump trucks including minor repairs and tune ups as well as normal maintenance such as checking oil, water, fluids and servicing. Include any training and certifications you possess with specifics regarding the type of equipment and dates of training as well as dates of any certifications in your resume/application.
- Experience placing and finishing concrete, performing rough and finish carpentry, performing maintenance plumbing and maintenance electrical work, and reading/interpreting plans and blueprints. Typically gained by journey level (approximately four years of experience as a primary occupation) in residential or commercial construction in carpentry or concrete at the journey level and reading and interpreting blueprints and plans. Experience must include rough or maintenance plumbing and electrical work.
- Experience using and maintaining construction and building trades hand and power tools.
Specialty Requirement:
- Willing to work in a correctional facility.
