This job was posted by : For more information,please see: ## Clearwater County## CLASS SPECIFICATION**MAINTENANCE SHOP MECHANIC****Class Summary/Primary Function**The principal function of an employee in this class is to performjourney level skilled mechanical and technical duties to maintain andrepair County vehicles and equipment. Primary duties include performingmechanical repair and maintenance of law enforcement vehicles,ambulances, county passenger vehicles and other equipment such as boats,snow mobiles, ATVs jet skis, etc. The position is under the generalsupervision of the Maintenance Shop Supervisor, although most work isperformed independently with latitude for independent judgment andinitiative. The principal duties of the position are performed in arepair shop environment and include use of electrically poweredmaintenance and heavy equipment and exposure to fuels, fumes, andsolvents.#### Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInspects, diagnoses and performs preventive and corrective maintenanceof county vehicles including law enforcement vehicles, ambulances,passenger vehicles, boats, snow mobiles, etc.Performs maintenance and safety inspection functions including but notlimited to, inspecting and replacing such component parts as starters,alternators, generators, batteries, hydraulic cylinders, fuel injection,brake systems, and related components;Services vehicles and equipment with fluids and lubricants, performingtune-ups, clutch and brake adjustments, fuel system and emissioncontrols, and servicing front end steering and suspension systems;Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls a variety of systems including but notlimited to, mechanical, electrical, heating and cooling, emissions,hydraulic, air brake, power train, chassis, gasoline and diesel powerplants and fuel systems, and related mechanical systems;Diagnoses and repairs electronic engine, brakes, and transmissioncontrols;Repairs and services small engines;Fabricates and welds equipment and parts;Records/documents hours, parts, and maintenance activities;Maintains repair, inspection, and maintenance records, logs, anddocumentation;Maintains shop and inventory of equipment and parts;Maintains, cleans, and repairs shop tools, equipment, and work areas;Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accuratelyinformed concerning work progress, including present and potential workproblems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing suchproblems;Interacts with County employees, customers, visitors and the generalpublic effectively and professionally;Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with Countypolicies, procedures and safety practices.**Other Duties and Responsibilities**Performs building maintenance such as snow removal, lock repairs andother projects;Participates safety meetings and hazardous materials training;Picks-up and delivers parts and vehicles;Performs other related duties as required.### Classification Requirements:Knowledge of:Materials, methods, principles and practices, tools, and objectives ofvehicle and equipment maintenance and repair;Installation, diagnosis, servicing, and repair of gasoline and dieselengines, brake systems, steering and suspension systems, hydraulicsystems, power and transmission systems, heating and cooling systems,vehicle electrical systems, computerized engine controls, and relatedcomponents and systems;Welding applications including but not limited to, wire feed, stick anduse of cutting torches;Equipment and tool operation and maintenance practices;Federal regulations and County policies regarding safe work practicesrelating to use of equipment, power tools, and workplace safety.Ability to Operate mechanical tools and equipment for equipment and automotiverepair;Repair equipment and engines (gasoline and diesel), electrical systems,drive train and suspension systems, hoses and belts, and specialtyparts;Inspect equipment and vehicles for common maintenance problems andconcerns and monitor fluid levels;Operate air-powered equipment and computer scan tools;Operate a welder;Perform engine tune-ups including computerized control systems;Read and comprehend equipment and automotive maintenance and repairmanuals;Operate a personal computer and job-related software;Operate diagnostic and related electronic equipment using programapplications appropriate to assigned duties;r
