Role Purpose StatementResponsible for the development, implementation, and management of policies associated with Employee Safety Ramp Safety, Motor Vehicle FMCSA compliance, provide policy direction and recommendations for Regional Employee Safety programs and Ramp Safety programs to ensure compliance with company safety initiatives OSHA, FMCSA, airline specific standards, and IATA
Main AccountabilitiesBusiness Strategy, Policies and Tools
Lead the identification, development and implementation of employee safety, ramp safety, FMCSA, and related, to comply with regulatory, customer and industry requirements
Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies (ex: OSHA, Cal OSHA) and airline customers.
Maintain the Safety Management Guide
Employee Safety
Develop and establish actions for safety process improvement to help CSCs achieve safety KPIs and targets aimed at reducing and preventing incidents of on the job injuries in the CSCs, and all LSG facilities
Support, train, coach and guide Employee Safety Process Owners in safety responsibilities and workers compensation claim assistance.
Coordinate safety programs with all phases of management and employees through communication, training and participation within all departments throughout the CSCs
Conduct periodic safety assessments/audits of CSCs and provide recommended corrective action plans
Assist with corporate safety shoe program, first aid programs, AED, and other vendor supported programs.
Emphasize existing and/or develop new safety shorts and training modules, as needed
Administer regulatory compliance with employee safety issues and recordkeeping
Assist CSC in all accident investigations when requested
Monitor insurance claim reports and company accident reports for ongoing trends and compile data to identify areas of improvement and opportunity
Participate in and support company sponsored initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing
Participate in additional safety related projects as needed.
Ensure compliance to powered industrial truck standards
Maintain awareness and participation as a stakeholder in any new robotics or new machinery or equipment.
Ramp Safety
Lead and monitor the performance of the Ramp Safety Program and reduce the number of aircraft damages and incidents.
Analyze performance trends to identify risks and areas of non-compliance
Administer changes and updates to the ramp policies and procedures as needed
Track and monitor the execution of the Ramp Safety Observation program through periodic visits and audits, dashboard reporting, CSC provided self-audits, RSO completion, initial ramp training and recurrent ramp training.
Maintain PPE programs for hearing protection, safety toe shoes, Hi-Vis garments, winter garments, and uniform compliance.
Maintain and develop best practices for pre-trip inspection, reporting of maintenance issues, monitor and track motor vehicle accidents and provide root cause analysis.
Work with LSG fleet management on the improvement of current and new truck designs and ensure Safety is a stakeholder.
Lead and train trainers throughout the network on different transportation models
Leadership
Mentor and develop regional safety managers, develop and maintain the safety community (process owners).
Develop and track corrective measures and action plans as needed and requested.
Liaise with airline customers and LSG sales as required.
Lead accident investigations and follow up with root cause analysis and corrective actions
Represent OVC Safety as requested by the Director of Safety
Bachelors Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field or equivalent experience required
A minimum five years operations required
Knowledge of workers compensation insurance programs and claim process
Understanding and applicability of governmental regulations such as OSHA, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and State OSHA Plans where applicable
Understanding of project management systems, maintenance and manufacturing/production standards and issues
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications
Good oral and written communication, presentation skills and organizational ability
Ability to interact with all level within and outside of the organization
