Civil Service Title- Assistant Civil Engineer * IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF ASSISTANT CIVIL ENGINEER, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE CIVIL SERVICE LIST, EXAM # 5015, OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55-A PROGRAM. The selected candidate will be responsible for assigning and coordinating the activities of in-house crews, making flag and corrective repairs to the city's elevated infrastructure; reviews engineering plans in preparation for repair jobs; prepares work tickets and lane closure applications and drafts U.S. Coast Guard notices of upcoming work; coordinates with skilled trades in the field to solve logistical problems and ensure safety standards are maintained; monitors daily progress of projects and confirms the use of materials per industry standards; prepares reports on projects including material and personnel costs; responds to emergencies and supervises work being performed during evenings, nights, and weekends; performs other related duties. Preferred Skills Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the repair and maintenance of elevated structures by in-house forces. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.
