Primary Purpose:
The Project Contract Manager, Innovation Business Unit must demonstrate critical thinking skills, attention to detail, sensitivity to confidential matters, and exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills to accomplish position goals efficiently and collaboratively. This Innovation Business Unit workforce member will be responsible for the preparing, reviewing, negotiating, and revising of official documents and management of proposals and contracts for the Innovation Business Unit and, as needed, for other ARUP Innovation groups. Takes lead in the: creation of, close-out, extension renewal and amendment of the various types of contracts required to support the ARUP Innovation Business Unit. Key responsibilities include: 1) working with ARUP leadership in the Innovation Business Unit on contracting strategy and planning, 2) collaboration and partnership with key stakeholders within and external to ARUP Laboratories, 3) contract, legal, project proposal, and budget management. The Project and Contract Specialist reports to the VP, Business Development for the Innovation Business Unit.

Essential Functions:
Manages the administration of the various sourcing contract types, including project timelines and targeted completion dates working with the Innovation Directors to ensure that all project deadlines are met.
Develops and manages processes relating to official documents and contracts.
Makes recommendations on contracting content, structure, language, and internal processes.
Coordinates with Innovation Business Unit staff members to align project interdependencies as staff members prepare research proposals.
In both an advisory and hands-on supporting role, gains a clear understanding of key stakeholder requirements and needs to clearly communicate both verbally and in technical written form within the contract sections to help with the updates, red-lines and amendments as needed.
Utilizes, develops, and improves upon existing contracting, funding, and legal documentation priorities, and processes for the Innovation Business Unit.
Collaborates with a legal team consisting of lawyers, paralegals, U of U Office of General Council (OGC), and office staff to draft and modify contracts.
Monitoring compliance with contract requirements ensuring all conditions are satisfied before final approval throughout the contact life cycle.
Occasionally performs administrative duties, such as responding to incoming calls, routing requests for legal advice, scheduling calls and meetings, preparing and sending correspondence and legal documents.
Assists ARUP Innovation Business Unit leadership and attorneys in drafting and reviewing correspondence, contracts, policies, , proposals, and other official documents.
With support from legal advisors, develops materials to inform ARUP leadership about legal issues applicable to Innovation Business Unit programs and projects.
Assists Innovation Business Unit leadership and attorneys with legal research.
Manages program objectives in the context of contractual obligations to ensure each project complies with agreements and expectations of all applicable stakeholders.
Assists with procurement and supplier contracting and negotiations when applicable.
Obtains and maintains medical knowledge relevant to the diseases and strategies of existing and potential company/industry, foundation, and academic research and development partners.
Ensures contracts and other legal agreements are deposited and properly maintained in ARUP’s contract and legal documents platform.
Assists in defining schedules and estimates task duration of project deliverables to develop and document realistic project timelines.
Uses experience and expertise to innovate, challenge assumptions and invent practices and processes when necessary.
Anticipates potential project obstacles and risks and develops contingency plans to address them.
Leads efforts with project stakeholders to take necessary restorative action when projects go off-track.
Establishes and maintains strategic relationships with historical, new and prospective ARUP research clientele and collaborators.
Demonstrates general knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and agency guidelines as they pertain to R&I projects and programs.
Identifies opportunities for program growth.
Proactively networks to build relationships with non-ARUP stakeholders in support of the goals of the Innovation Business Unit programs including, ARUP clients and vendors, as well as academic and industry collaborators.
Engages internal and external stakeholders in problem-solving and decision-making to gain buy-in and alignment.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements:
Full-time onsite unless otherwise specified by the VP of Business Development in the Innovation Business Unit.
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
