Christopher Spitzmiller, Inc. is an established high-end ceramics studio specializing in creating lamps, tableware and accessories.
Currently, we are looking to add a woodworker/woodturner to our team. The person working in this role is responsible for turning all of our custom hardwood bases on a lathe as well as prepping these bases for gilding and applying various finishes when necessary.
While the ideal candidate should have demonstrable experience with woodturning and/or woodworking, we will train the right candidate with experience working in a studio environment (i.e. metalworking, sculpture, art framing, ceramics, set building, etc.).
Key responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
-Cutting hardwood stock and turning lamp bases on a lathe
-Re-stocking hardwood inventory as necessary
-Applying various stains, painted finishes and prepping bases for gilding
-Maintenance and organization of hand tools, power tools, woodshop, spray booth and materials
-Occasional development of custom accessories and projects
A strong sense of organization, good communication skills, ability to work alone and with others in a small studio environment, willingness to follow direction and attention to detail are essential to success in this role. Must be able to lift up to 75lbs regularly and must be able to use power tools safely.
