What we're looking for: An experienced servant leader to join the City of New Braunfels team. Under general supervision, you'll perform construction inspections and provide senior level inspection of construction work sites to assure compliance with plans, specifications, contracts, agreements, safety regulations, and City, State and Federal construction standards and regulatory requirements.

The responsibilities you'll be trusted with:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Mentors construction inspectors and assists in developing staff skills to ensure projects are constructed on time, on schedule and meet the quality specified in the engineering plans and specifications.
  • Meets with management staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; may be required to review the work of construction inspectors to assure the quality and timely accomplishment of duties and responsibilities.
  • Leads in the development of standards and forms for use in construction inspection.
  • Assists in training staff in the area of construction methods and standards of construction.
  • Schedules construction inspections and monitors for completeness.
  • Interacts with contractors and the public as a representative of the City on construction related matters.
  • Reviews plans and specifications of construction projects; attends preconstruction meetings as required.
  • Inspects projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and City, State and Federal standards.
  • Oversees the performance of field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used; verifies quality of workmanship, quality of materials used, and compliance with plans, specifications, estimates and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Inspects soil, concrete, asphalt, reinforcing steel and excavations within the City right-of-way.
  • Performs field tests on construction materials for compliance with technical specifications.
  • Interprets and explains technical specifications, city codes, and Federal and state regulations.
  • Notes deficiencies and deviations from plans; refers serious problems and disagreements in interpretation to management staff.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations in maintaining and updating inspection records and files.
  • Attends final project walkthrough meetings to review data and answer questions as needed.
  • Responds to requests for information; provides technical information to City staff as authorized; provides assistance to the public within scope of authority.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Attends public hearings and meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Your education and experience that matter most for this role:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED; AND seven (7) years experience in building trades, construction or inspections; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
