EBA Engineering, Inc. (EBA) is hiring Rail/Transit Construction Inspectors at all levels to support infrastructure projects with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the safe, efficient, and quality execution of critical transit improvements across the Metro system.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Transit Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for monitoring and documenting contractor work to verify compliance with WMATA standards, safety protocols, and contract specifications. Depending on your experience, responsibilities may range from daily field reports to overseeing inspections on diverse transit infrastructure, including rail systems, stations, facilities, civil and structural elements, and power or signal systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Inspecting construction activities to ensure conformance to project plans, specifications, and WMATA Design Criteria.
- Monitoring site safety practices in accordance with WMATA safety policies and industry best practices.
- Preparing daily inspection reports, field notes, and photo documentation.
- Coordinating with WMATA staff, contractors, and engineers to resolve field issues.
- Tracking and verifying quantities, materials, and pay items.
- Observing and documenting installation and testing of transit-specific systems such as communications, traction power, third rail, signals, elevators/escalators, or trackwork (depending on area of assignment).
- Reviewing work progress and maintaining accurate records for schedule compliance and payment verification.
CORE REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record
- A high school diploma or a high school equivalent certification
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency in math and English
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on construction schedule.
- Must be able to access and work in WMATA rights-of-way and safety-critical areas after completing WMATA safety training.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to walk over rough and uneven terrain; stand for up to 12 hours a day on occasion; and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting; using hands to grasp and reach; raising hands above the head; sitting; climbing; and balancing
- Able to work in various weather conditions and terrains
CORE REQUIREMENTS BY LEVEL:
Inspector I / Entry Level:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2-3 years of relevant construction experience.
- Basic understanding of construction methods and documentation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Inspector II / Mid-Level:
- 3-7 years of construction inspection experience on transit/rail projects.
- Experience working in active rail/transit environments is a plus.
- Familiarity with WMATA standards and safety rules preferred.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification strongly preferred.
Inspector III / Senior-Level:
- 7+ years of construction inspection experience on transit/rail projects.
- Strong knowledge of WMATA construction standards and safety requirements.
- Prior WMATA project experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead inspection teams and mentor junior inspectors.
- NICET certification (Level II or higher), ASHE, or other applicable credentials preferred.
