Our talented team of engineers and designers tackles diverse, multidisciplinary projects ranging from ship design and waterfront structures to complex building systems and civil infrastructure. We're looking for an experienced Marine CAD Designer who brings a deep understanding of ship systems and construction practices to support our growing workload. If you're someone who thrives on technical precision, teamwork, and a variety of project types, we want to hear from you.
Role Overview
This is a senior-level drafting and design role focused on producing accurate, clear, and constructible contract drawings for ship structures and marine systems. You'll work closely with engineers and project managers to develop drawings that balance design intent with practical fabrication and installation. Our ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and curious - someone who asks good questions and takes pride in coordination and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Create and modify models and 2D design drawings in AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Rhino, SolidWorks, ShipConstructor, etc.
- Develop conceptual, detailed, production-ready, fabrication level, and as-built drawing sets for ship structures and systems (piping HVAC, Electrical, etc.).
- Apply industry best practices for support design, welding standards, and system layout with attention to constructability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, and other drafters to ensure integrated, conflict-free designs.
- Review drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project and industry standards.
- Identify potential interferences and offer practical solutions.
- Create 3D geometry for engineering analysis and finite element modeling.
- Adapt to a range of client CAD standards and project types.
- Contribute both independently and within interdisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 8+ years of marine design and drafting experience.
- Broad knowledge of ship construction and shipboard mechanical and electrical systems.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in developing production-ready drawings that align with current industry standards and client-specific requirements.
- Strong understanding of standard design and drafting principles for structural, piping, ducting, electrical cable routing.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive, curious mindset.
- Clear communicator who collaborates well with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to review and apply established specifications and engineering principles to ensure drawing accuracy.
- This position may require military base access for project site visits; therefore, US Citizenship is required.
- Physically able to conduct site visits, field investigations and ship checks including being in confined spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 25 pounds, in both cold and hot environments.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience across multiple CAD platforms (AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Rhino, Ship Constructor, SolidWorks, Civil 3D, Revit, or MicroStation).
- Familiarity with standard shipbuilding practices, including component support, welding techniques, and system integration.
- Prior involvement in contract guidance or shipyard-level drawings.
- Experience preparing drawings under various standards (e.g., NAVFAC, USCG, National CAD Standards).
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
- Proficiency with script files and AutoLISP.
