Position Detail:

We currently have an opening for an experienced Journeyperson Electrician for this role based in Kapuskasing , ON . This is a union position with the IBEW Local 869.

Reporting to the Eastern Sr. Operations Manager, the Journeyperson Electrician will oversee the safe and effective operation and maintenance of electrical, control, hydraulic, and minor mechanical work related to power generation at our Kapuskasing, Ontario sites. Will be responsible for the operational and maintenance aspects as well as ensuring the safety of the crew.

Pay rate: $46.00/hour

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Responsible for all aspects of electrical, control, hydraulic and minor mechanical work related to hydroelectric power generation and associated control, auxiliary, distribution, transformation, and transmission systems
  • Respond to power system and other emergencies in accordance with documented safety procedures, sound judgement and good utility practices
  • Lead assigned projects and provide subject matter expertise as required
  • Coordinate with external vendors from a project management and technical aspect
  • Collaborate with Operations team to improve design and build standards; ensure standards are adhered to
  • Respond to requests and work orders while paying careful attention to requirements and timelines
  • Monitor and maintain systems performance and troubleshoot outages
  • Provide feedback regarding areas of improvement and for efficiency
  • Escalate incidents as necessary while providing communication to management
  • Support the configuration, installation and testing of current and/or new systems
  • Use industry standard monitoring and analysis tools as required
  • Assist in the creation, support, and maintenance of operational and safety documentation
  • Work with 3rd party support provider(s)
  • Maintain and promote a safety focus by monitoring activities with an emphasis on adherence to all safety/environmental regulations and policies;
  • Complies with all Corporate policies and IT procedures
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Qualifications / Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Ontario 309A - Construction and Maintenance Electrician certification or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of industrial experience as a Journeyperson in an Electrical trade
  • Experience in hydropower generation, a plus
  • Willing to work on other operational systems with provided safety training
  • Strong understanding of safety principles
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision and be eager to learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Computerized control systems experience, a plus
  • Hydraulics knowledge/experience is preferred
  • Experience with Confined Space Entry requirements is preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have a valid class G drivers license with a clean driving record
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Able to work overtime and respond to call-ins outside of normal working hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Able to respond to emergencies within 30 minutes of call-in
  • Able to travel to other company sites within Ontario including overnight trips as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb heights and work in confined spaces, on station structures, ladders, stairs, staging and equipment as well as lift, work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures and stand; all over considerable distances and for extended periods of time.
  • Must stand for extended periods of time, be able to lift safely within your physical capability, climb stairs frequently, including over considerable distances on a regular basis
