Join Collins Aerospace as a Design Engineer. In this role, you will support military and commercial programs for Engine Control Systems, and you will be responsible for improving and expanding their model-based design.

You will also produce 3-D models and 2-D layout drawings for the product to meet both engineering and customer requirements. When analyzing a design, you will create tolerance build ups and fit checks to support hardware functionality and Source control drawing creation, ensuring the model and drawings accurately define Engineering intent. In addition, you will collaborate with various cross functional teams, management, and customers, making it a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their engineering skills and work on diverse projects.

This position will be at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

This role is categorized as hybrid , with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:

• Design major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. Develop data and make parametric models, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
• Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Design, develop and test metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.
• Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products and systems in areas including, but not limited to, mechanical, thermal, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. May evaluate and analyze various mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
• Verify electrical harness routings, creating concept items in NX, and comparing to supplier interface definition/drawings.
• Ensure accuracy of Clearance Envelopes, Assembly Removal studies, and Fit Checks for correct fit and alignment on engine, and performance of complex assembly drawings to customer model.
• Work with engineering for initial 2D concept of product.
• Create 3-D product models, outlines, and layouts.
• Create solid model piece parts and wiring harnesses in NX.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to support product failure investigations.
• Create assemblies in NX and manage the Bill of Materials review.
• Draft source control and engineering drawings.
• Support Engineering, Drafting, and Design standard work policy and procedure initiatives.
• Responsible for the interface design and definition requirements for Production and Development projects.

Qualifications you must have:

• Typically requires a university degree unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and 2 years prior relevant experience.
• Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience working in CAD tools (Siemens NX), PLM (Teamcenter) and NX Manager or similar software.
• Experience with industry specifications and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience working with Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint.
• Experience working with 3D Modeling, Drafting and GD&T.
• Knowledge of Systems interface and fit checks.
• Experience ensuring proper filing, control, and export classification.SAP knowledge is valuable.
• Project management/Project engineering/MS Project experience is valuable.
• Desirable experience in CNC Manufacturing.
• Background with Pratt and Whitney Engine Programs preferred with validating mechanical interface requirements.
