Join Collins Aerospace as an entry level Design Engineer. In this role, you will support military and commercial programs for Engine Control Systems, and you will be responsible for improving and expanding their model-based design.

You will also be taking on both new and mature programs and bring new and innovative ideas to the table when it comes to planning and executing. Having a strong background in technical and project leadership is important in this role. In addition, you will collaborate with various cross functional teams, management, and customers, making it a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their engineering skills and work on diverse projects.

This position will be at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

This role is categorized as hybrid , with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:

  • Design major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. Develop data and make parametric models, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
  • Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Design, develop and test metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.
  • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products and systems in areas including, but not limited to, mechanical, thermal, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. May evaluate and analyze various mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Work directly with engineering staff to produce 2-D drawing layouts and model-based definition of products to meet engineering and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with project engineers and ensure all drawings meet standard work.
  • Create drawings that accurately define engineering intent.
  • Modify and create 3-D models of parts and assemblies.
  • Draft source control and engineering drawings.
  • Support Engineering, Drafting, and Design standard work policy and procedure initiatives.
  • Work with coworkers for the interface design and definition requirements for production and development projects.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a university degree unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience working in CAD tools (Siemens NX), PLM (Teamcenter) and NX Manager or similar software.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint.
  • Experience in design of Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCAs).
  • Experience interacting with configuration management (CM).
  • SAP knowledge is valuable.
  • Project management/Project engineering/MS Project experience is valuable.
  • Desirable experience in CNC Manufacturing.
