Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior RF Wireless Design Engineer who will lead the design, planning, and deployment of advanced 5G and Wi-Fi wireless networks for both indoor and outdoor environments. This role demands expert-level understanding of RF survey methodologies, propagation modeling, and the technical nuances of wireless infrastructure design in enterprise and mission-critical environments. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader, capable of turning complex wireless requirements into scalable, high-performance network solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the RF design and engineering of 5G NR and Wi-Fi (including Wi-Fi 6/6E/7) networks across a range of environments: campuses, urban outdoor areas, secure facilities, and mixed-use buildings.
- Conduct and analyze RF surveys using tools such as Ekahau, iBwave, AirMagnet, or similar platforms.
- Design and validate wireless coverage models, link budgets, and antenna placements using advanced propagation and simulation tools.
- Produce detailed RF design documentation, including heatmaps, coverage analysis, and installation drawings.
- Collaborate with civil, network, and security teams to ensure end-to-end integration of the wireless solution.
- Oversee or support installation planning including cabling pathways, mounting strategies, power considerations, and environmental constraints.
- Support wireless performance optimization through site audits, tuning, and spectrum analysis.
- Provide engineering leadership throughout the lifecycle: design, deployment, validation, and post-deployment support.
- Ensure compliance with FCC, NTIA, and/or agency-specific RF regulations and security standards.
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in RF design and wireless engineering, with proven success in enterprise or public sector wireless deployments.
- Deep knowledge of 5G NR (standalone and non-standalone) and Wi-Fi technologies (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be).
- Extensive experience conducting predictive, passive, and active RF surveys using industry-standard tools.
- Strong understanding of RF propagation, interference mitigation, spectrum planning, and site-specific challenges.
- Proficient with RF planning software such as iBwave, Ekahau, and/or Atoll.
- Solid foundation in wireless security, backhaul planning, and QoS/SLA design.
- Familiarity with CBRS, DAS, private 5G, small cells, and outdoor wireless mesh solutions.
- Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
Desired:
- Certifications such as CWNE, CWDP, CBRS CPI, iBwave Level 2, or 5G NR Fundamentals.
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Experience with private 5G deployments, edge compute integration, or IoT environments.
- Knowledge of federal wireless deployments (DoD, DHS, FAA, etc.) and spectrum licensing requirements.
- Familiarity with site acquisition, ROW permitting, and power/fiber coordination.
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, Wireless Communications, or 10 years experience in a related field
Clearance:
- Secret Clearance required, Top Secret eligibility desired
