Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Infrastructure Design Engineer. The position requires a current RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification to lead and support complex fiber infrastructure projects. A Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) designs and implements cabling infrastructure for telecommunications, voice, data, and video networks. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with industry standards, providing system testing and validation, and troubleshooting issues. RCDDs typically work in the design phase, overseeing installation, and ensuring the project meets project standards and codes
This expert-level role requires deep knowledge in ISP/OSP survey methodology, as well as planning and designing cable installation pathsboth aerial and buried. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in the telecom or IT infrastructure industry and demonstrate excellence in cross-functional coordination, permitting, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and oversee in-depth site surveys to assess viability, obstacles, and optimal routing.
- Develop cable route maps, installation drawings, and as-built documentation using tools such as AutoCAD or GIS systems.
- Analyze field data to recommend cost-effective, technically sound design solutions.
- Prepare and review Bill of Materials (BOMs) and technical specifications for construction and implementation teams.
- Collaborate with construction managers, civil engineers, and utility companies for permitting and right-of-way coordination.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes (NEC, TIA/EIA, BICSI) and client-specific standards.
- Act as a technical SME in meetings with stakeholders, providing expert guidance on fiber deployment methods, risks, and cost impacts.
- Support QA/QC efforts through review of cable test results, inspection reports, and site audits.
Required:
- RCDD Certification (Required; must be current)
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in fiber optic network design and installation, with significant experience in both aerial and underground deployments.
- Demonstrated experience conducting and interpreting fiber surveys for new construction and existing infrastructure.
- Proficient in reading and creating technical drawings, schematics, and fiber maps.
- Familiarity with fiber splicing, testing standards (OTDR, power meter), and loss budgeting.
- Strong understanding of permitting requirements, local codes, and environmental factors influencing fiber routes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desired:
- Experience with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS), AutoCAD, and fiber management tools.
- Knowledge of FTTx, 5G backhaul, microwave and enterprise fiber infrastructure.
- PMP, PE, or other relevant certifications a plus.
- Government or military project experience preferred (if applicable).
- CompTIA Security+ CE
Clearance:
- Secret Clearance required, Top Secret eligibility desired

- This position is remote w/ about 25% CONUS travel
