Structural Engineer

Job Description

Our client is currently seeking an intermediate structural Engineer to join their team in Calgary to support their substation engineering department. Our client is an engineering consulting firm with offices in Calgary and Regina that provides design and engineering services to the electric power delivery industry. Their expertise includes all aspects of Transmission, Substation and Distribution systems for voltages ranging from 4160V to 500kV. The civil/structural engineer will be primarily involved in the design of steel structure for substations and the foundations for them as well using concrete and screw piles.

Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to the substation civil team.
• From time to time, support other Maskwa delivery teams (Transmission and Distribution) as required.
• Review designs against applicable industry codes and client standards as well as internal MHV process.
• Work closely with other disciplines to coordinate design efforts.
• Prepare Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Engineering Design Specification (EDS) documents.
• Prepare cost estimates, material take offs, scopes of work, and design packages.
• Prepare relevant Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and engineering reports.
• Write construction scope of work and prepare IFC construction binders.
• Provide engineering support during construction.
• Oversee the preparation of, As-Built drawings and project close out data.
• Act as subject matter expert supporting earthworks, foundation, and structural aspects of substation engineering.
• Provide technical guidance to the design teams.
• Track project progress for engineering activities to ensure budgets and schedules are met.
• Provide weekly updates to senior management regarding projects progress, budgets and resourcing.
• Provide on the job training for new hires and junior members of the team.
• Maintain in depth knowledge of client and industry standards.
• Conduct quality control reviews of project deliverables to ensure technical requirements are met.
• Identify and develop new tools and processes to increase working efficiency.
• Complete engineering and material cost estimates for bids/proposals.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with existing clients.

Essential Skills

• P.Eng in Civil/Structural Engineering
• 2+ working years as a structural engineer
• AutoCAD 3D
• MicroStation
• Ability and willingness to design and from time to time draft
• Experience in design of steel structures within an industrial setting
• Past brownfield steel structure design
• Concrete slab design / screw pile knowledge

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-4 Years of Transmission/Distribution industry exp.

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
