This is a semi-skilled position involving maintenance and repair work of a routine nature. Employees assist with or perform skilled activities in a variety of building, installation, snow removal, grounds maintenance, maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades after receiving detailed instructions. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervisor. Does related work as directed and required. Expected hours: 40/per week. 6:00am-2:30pm. able to be on-call (mostly during snow/ice removal). TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Performs semi-skilled work or assists a skilled worker with maintenance and are repair in one or more of the mechanical or construction trades, such as masonry, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, automotive repair, sewage facilities, furniture and other mechanical operations;Performs grounds maintenance work such as fence installation and repair, sign fabrication and repair, equipment (including athletic) repair, lawn cutting and maintenance (such as trimming, planting, weeding) and ice and snow treatment and removal.Assists with the installation and repair of electrical fixtures, equipment, and wiring systems;Assists with the installation and repair of general plumbing equipment and systems including, but not limited to, faucets, toilet fixtures, and drinking fountains;Assists with the installation, maintenance, repair and rebuilding of sewer and water distribution systems;Performs steam fitting, forging, welding, sheet metal fabrication and/or machine shop work;Mixes plaster & concrete and assists in laying bricks, plastering walls, finishing concrete work, and related masonry work;Installs and performs routine repairs of carpets, floors, ceilings, insulating materials, roofs, gutter systems, weather stripping, paneling, shelves, doors, windows and other parts of buildings;Assembles, installs, repairs, rebuilds, and refinishes furniture, cabinets, stairs, and other wood products, equipment and structures;Performs simple mechanical repairs on automobiles*, trucks, tractors and other mechanical and motorized equipment and tools;Operates automobiles, trucks, air compressors, riding/push lawnmowers, snowplows, and othermotorized equipment;Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties.KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of one or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades; ability to work from plans, specifications and rough sketches; ability to follow oral and written instructions; skill in one or more of the basic mechanical and building trades; ability to operate hand and power tools and perform manual labor; ability to establish good working relationships with others; ability to work in all weather conditions; May be required to work on call, nights and weekends on occasion as needed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus six (6) months of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent work experience in one (1) or more of the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades; OR,Graduation from a technical high school or trade school with a major in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades.Valid NYS driver's license required.Must be legally eligible to work in the US.Able to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.Benefits include medical, dental, vision, Health Saving Account, paid Vacation, paid sick, holiday pay, and NYS pension retirement systemMinimum Salary: 18.19Maximum Salary: 20.62Salary Unit: Yearly
