About the Position Enquyst Technologies is a rapidly growing, early-stage biotech company that is focused on developing innovative, pathbreaking bioprocess and analytical technologies to significantly improve the process of biological drug development and dramatically reduce the costs of their manufacturing. We are searching for a qualified, highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team on the ground floor to design novel biopharma processing equipment. This position reports directly to the Director of Hardware Engineering. This role will be focused on the design of the next generation of high-throughput equipment. Best product design practices, components selection, and fundamental problem solving will be critical to success. Primary Responsibilities Work with the engineering team to design novel bioprocess equipment to enable reliable, cost-effective downstream biopharmaceutical purification and processing. Lead the mechanical design and hands-on building, testing, troubleshooting, and design iterations of prototype equipment. Communicate design concepts, troubleshooting ideas, results and observations to internal and external stakeholders. Plan, schedule, and communicate tasks effectively to a remote team. Select appropriate components and materials based on design criteria. Provide strong mechanical engineering expertise in bioprocess technology design reviews. Develop effective working relationships with both internal and external partners. Maintain a safety-first approach to science and engineering. Think creatively, solve problems, and develop innovative solutions based on sound scientific and engineering reasoning. Other duties as required Qualifications MS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5-8 years of relevant hands-on research experience with designing and prototyping equipment. or BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 8+ years of relevant hands-on research experience with designing and prototyping equipment. Preferred Skills Experience with downstream biopharmaceutical processing and related equipment, including centrifugation, depth filtration, affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, tangential flow filtration, ultrafiltration/diafiltration. Experience in the design and development of capital equipment for applications in life sciences. Experience designing liquid handling and fluidics systems, products, or equipment. Integration of automated systems into manufacturing equipment. Required Skills Hands-on mechanical and bench testing skills and ability to perform equipment design, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting without supervision. Strong knowledge of applied science and engineering principles, including physics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and heat transfer. Knowledge of volume production processes across ceramics, polymers, and metal. Experience with authoring and analyzing mechanical drawings, tolerance stack-ups, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Working knowledge of and ability to select fluid control components and systems, including fittings, liquid handling lines, valves, gauges, sensors, and pumps. Experience and skill in selecting materials and components based on design criteria and biological/chemical process compatibility. Experience with interfacing directly with vendors, design firms, and fabrication service firms. General knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering disciplines. Driven self-starter with capability to work independently as well as on interdisciplinary teams with chemists, biochemist, biophysicists, biomedical engineers, chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, controls engineers, analytical chemists, materials scientists, biologists, etc. Computer skills including MS Office and statistical analysis software. Oral and written communication skills.
