Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description The Design Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing production processes for both new and existing products and systems, focusing on improvements in cost, performance, and manufacturing facilitation. Utilizing the fundamental principles of mechanical, electrical, industrial, and other engineering disciplines, the Design Engineer supports existing products, collaborating with the manufacturing and operations teams to implement updates or modifications. Responsibilities Design specialized fluid control components using computer aided design and drafting (CADD) tools to fulfill customer requests. Collaborate with designers, suppliers, and various departments (production, sales, quality, etc.) to gather technical information and assess production capabilities for developing feasible design solutions. Engage in hands-on activities in the test laboratory, conducting design validation and product preparation tasks as needed. Work with Sales and Engineering management to develop technical specifications for fluid control devices. Assist production and operations teams to ensure capability to manufacture products as designed. Perform engineering change requests to modify products or develop new solutions. Review customer Requests for Quote and specifications to create preliminary design concepts. Provide design layout and proposal drawings, models, or sufficient data for designers to work with. Offer technical guidance for the preparation of technical proposals. Check outputs from designers to ensure accuracy. Prepare stress, strain, fluid, thermal, and other engineering calculations required by assignments. Conduct basic Finite Element Analysis and Computerized Fluid Dynamics analyses as needed. Perform preliminary analytical or experimental tasks to verify the soundness of conceptual designs. Follow through on experimental designs, correcting deficiencies and making improvements. Investigate production problems when required, offering solutions and advising other department members on design issues. Complete forms and documentation within the Engineering department for procurement, fabrication, and testing. Collaborate with designers and be capable of performing all their activities. Generate test and assembly procedures and reports for design verification and manufacturing. Initiate requests for prototype fabrication and order special materials, fixtures, and tooling as needed. Compile records of project progress. Collaborate with other departments (Manufacturing, Quality, etc.) to ensure timely quality product realization. Review non-conformance reports and manage material dispositions according to the Material Review Board process. Prepare and deliver training sessions. Essential Skills Proficiency in design software such as SolidWorks and MathCAD. Experience in mechanical design, particularly stress analysis. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. At least 3 years of relevant experience in the design of mechanical components or valves. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to work with Sales and Engineering management to develop technical specifications. Experience in performing basic Finite Element Analysis and Computerized Fluid Dynamics analyses. Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple functional departments. Experience in preparing and delivering training sessions. Work Environment The position is based in an office setting, with work hours from Monday to Friday.
