TITLE: Painter

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Personnel employed to perform the duties of painting, finishing and decorating of wood, metal and concrete surfaces of buildings, other structures, equipment, machinery and furnishings of a county school system.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Buildings and Grounds

SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education

upon recommendation of the Superintendent of

Schools. As required by law, applicants must qualify

for the position by successfully completing a painter's

test. Performance as a painter must also be

demonstrated. Instruction to aid those taking the test

for the position will be provided by the Director of

Maintenance.

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT Salary - based on service personnel salary

TERMS: schedule for the summer employment term.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Must perform duties of painting, finishing and decorating of wood, metal and concrete surfaces of buildings, other structures, equipment, machinery and furnishings of the county school system.
  • Must check scaffold and ladders to determine safety and mark out of bounds areas where ladder work and climbing is required in occupied areas.
  • Must be fully aware of student and other safety precautions.
  • Must be aware of special care at door and window areas and not paint them shut.
  • Must protect adjacent areas from paint splatter or drips assuring a good clean job.
  • Must label fresh paint areas when buildings are occupied to assure occupants won't get paint smears on clothing.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or immediate supervisor may from time to time, assign.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Buildings and Grounds

SELECTION:

The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools.

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT: Salary - Based on service personnel's salary

TERM: Employment term is 200-261 days

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Comply with shop and equipment safety rules.
  • Correct safety hazards.
  • Determine availability of machines, supplies, and materials.
  • Inspect shop equipment and arrange for maintenance.
  • Clean and maintain work area and leave it in safe condition.
  • Develop a materials list used for each job.
  • Work with blueprints to do layouts, measurements, markings, and arrangement of materials.
  • Cut and shape wood, plastic, ceiling tile, fiberglass, and drywall using hand and power tools.
  • Construct stud and sheathing wall forms.
  • Erect plywood panel wall forms.
  • Construct stair forms.
  • Install beams and metal studs.
  • Install reinforcement steel.
  • Frame, align, and brace walls.
  • Frame door and window openings.

DESCRIPTION REVIEW:

Personnel employed as helpers to skilled maintenance employees. To perform minor repairs to equipment

and building of the county school system. Personnel employed to perform routine maintenance tasks that provide

all students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, and attractive and smooth functioning.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Maintenance

SELECTION:

The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools. The applicant will be evaluated on her/his ability to respond to practical situations

related to the specific requirements of the posted position. This evaluation will occur during the interview and throughout the selection process.

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT: Salary based on service personnel's salary schedule

TERM: 250 day employment term

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have a High School Diploma/GED
  • Have completed vocational training or any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a maintenance person.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Pass the approved West Virginia Service Personnel test for General Maintenance. (Current employees to not have to take the test.)
  • Be willing to participate in the required asbestos training and removal process.
  • Have a clear and consistent record of positive behavior that includes consistency in presenting a positive image both within and outside education.
  • Meet all health and physical stamina requirements needed to perform occasional heavy work.
  • Have knowledge of the trade and work safety with the ability to use related tools and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS;

  • Be willing and able to work flexible hours and be accessible.
  • Have ability to communicate, read, write, and perform simple mathematical computations common to the trade and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Be able to work well with others.
  • Must be reasonably neat and clean.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES;

  1. Aid electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, painters, welders, and other maintenance

workers in repair and construction of equipment and buildings, as assigned.

  1. Be able to operate grounds equipment and drive small trucks and tractors.

  2. Have ability to accept instruction from the maintenance foreman and seniored

maintenance personnel.

  1. Promote high standards of safety and good organizational methods in all work connected

areas to insure maximum productivity and efficiency.

  1. Be able to climb and perform work on roofs and ladders and able to lift a minimum

of 70 pounds.

  1. Maintain and upgrade skills through staff development activities and professional

growth opportunities in a meaningful manner.

  1. Operate and maintain equipment and tools properly.

  2. Provide labor for cleaning and repairing sidewalks, roadways, parking areas and

finishing of concrete.

  1. Operate motor vehicles, load or unload any vehicle and haul materials to/from job sites.

  2. Perform work using picks, shovels, jackhammers, forklifts, and sandblasting

equipment.

  1. Protects confidential matters regarding students.

  2. Complies with policies and regulations.

  3. Exercises good judgement and decision making skills.

  4. Establishes a positive relationship with other school personnel, parents, students and
