Position Information

TxDOT's Fort Worth District is seeking a Construction Inspector V or VI in our North Tarrant County Area Office to join us in the inspection and oversight of essential projects. Depending on skill level, this employee will perform all facets of bridge inspection, roadway inspection, environmental compliance, and materials inspection. Duties will include inspection of construction work performed by contractors, field testing and ensuring contractors are following plans and specifications.

This posting is for one (1) Construction Inspector V or VI position, depending on business need and applicants' qualifications. Minimum Salary: 57,614.00 Maximum Salary: 93,138.00

Position Description

Oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. Trains others. Leads the work of professional and technical employees. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. Work requires contact with other governmental agencies and private entities to include contractors. May perform material tests/manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

Construction Inspector V:

Performs engineering-related planning, design, data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review

activities for plan development.

Trains and makes training-related recommendations to staff on new operations.

Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.

Ensures inspectors turn in monthly estimates in an accurate and timely manner to facilitate payments to contractors.

Assist in planning and coordinating office operations.

Serves as a lead worker or project leader.

Oversees preparation of monthly and final estimates.

Assists in engineering-related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan

development by others.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Additional duties for Construction Inspector VI:

Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management

Assists Project Engineers in determining number of inspectors needed on assigned projects.

Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and

construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.

Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with

plans and specifications.

Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.

Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.

Minimum Qualifications:

Construction Inspector V:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience: 4 years of experience in construction inspection or transportation engineering experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Construction Inspector VI:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience: 5 years of experience in construction inspection or transportation engineering experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Construction Inspector V & VI:

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
