We are now hiring a Directional Drill Operator in the Point of Rocks Maryland area to help build the future of fiber networks! This role is perfect for skilled operators with a CDL license who are ready to take on critical infrastructure projects.
The primary responsibility for this position consists of installing fiber duct, conduit, and cable through the use of directional drilling, trenching and/or pulling equipment. Ancillary responsibilities include job-site safety, utility location, construction coordination, as well as equipment mobilization and maintenance.
What Will You Do
Operate directional drills, locators, and heavy equipment
Drive, transport and set up drilling equipment at job sites
Conduct pre-job site surveys and verify utility locations
Perform routine labor(potholing, conduit/duct/cable placement), and equipment setup
Ensure that all located utilities in the construction path have been potholed
Perform routine maintenance on trucks and boring machines
Conduct vehicle/equipment inspections and required paperwork
Communicate with Supervisor daily and assist coworkers as needed
Maintain clean and safe work sites
Skills & Knowledge:
Horizontal drill operation & locating equipment
Duct, cable, and vault construction
Heavy equipment operation & utility locating laws and compliance procedures;
Ability to read plant design prints (electronic & paper)
Independent work & basic civil construction skills
What You Will Need
CDL and heavy equipment operation experience required
Proven ability to be on time daily as well as maintains good attendance.
Must possess and continue to possess a valid CDL driver's license in good standing.
Ability to make independent judgment and perform repetitive tasks.
Regular contact with co-workers and customers
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening requirements
Communicate effectively with other personnel, city officials, and customers in a professional manner, both orally and in writing;
Analyze and appropriately solve problems and resolve conflicts;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public under sometimes stressful conditions;
Maintain a professional demeanor at all times;
Multitask and be organized under pressured daily issues.
Work Environment
The work environment is performed outside and involves exposure to a range of adverse conditions, such as extreme heat and cold, wet conditions, airborne dust, and excessively loud noises.
Repeated and frequent ability to lift, from floor to above head 40 lbs continuously
Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity. Environmental Conditions exposure is heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration and very loud noise
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require basic safety precautions.
Expected compensation includes $25 to $32/hr an hour and benefits including medical, vision, and dental benefits, and 401k retirement plan available for eligible employees. Compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as an individual's education, training, experience, skills, geographic location, seniority, merit, and other factors that are job related and consistent with business need.
